Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get new dentures?

The process usually takes between 2–6 appointments, depending on the type of denture and your individual needs. Immediate dentures can often be fitted on the same day as extractions, while full custom dentures may take a few weeks to complete.

Yes. It is normal for new dentures to feel bulky or slightly uncomfortable during the adjustment period. Your mouth, muscles, and tongue need time to adapt. Minor soreness and increased saliva are common in the beginning.

Speech changes are common when wearing dentures for the first time, especially with words containing “s” or “th” sounds. Most patients adjust naturally within a few weeks as the tongue adapts to the new shape of the denture.

With proper care, dentures generally last between 5–10 years. Over time, natural changes in the gums and jawbone can affect the fit, so relines or replacements may eventually be needed.

It is usually recommended to remove dentures at night to allow your gums and oral tissues to rest. Leaving dentures out overnight also helps reduce irritation and bacterial build-up.

Dentures should be cleaned daily using a soft denture brush and non-abrasive denture cleanser. Avoid regular toothpaste, as it can scratch the denture surface. Rinse dentures thoroughly after meals and soak them overnight if advised.

During the adjustment period, avoid very hard, sticky, or chewy foods. Cut food into smaller pieces and chew evenly on both sides. Most patients gradually return to a normal diet once comfortable.

  • Full dentures replace all missing teeth in the upper or lower jaw.
  • Partial dentures replace several missing teeth while fitting around remaining natural teeth.

Implant-supported dentures attach securely to dental implants placed in the jawbone. They provide improved stability, comfort, and chewing ability compared to conventional removable dentures.

Yes. Many denture repairs, cracks, or broken dentures can be repaired quickly, often on the same day depending on the damage.

Yes. Dentures help support the lips and cheeks, restoring facial shape and improving smile appearance after tooth loss.

There is usually a short adjustment period. Most patients adapt within a few weeks and find speaking and eating much easier with practice and proper fitting dentures.

It is recommended to have dentures professionally checked every 1–2 years to assess fit, wear, and oral health changes.
